PII (Personally Identifiable Information) is any data that can be used to identify you, your family, or your clients. While GeppyAi doesn't store your data, the AI models you interact with are often hosted in the cloud.
To keep your identity safe, follow these "Zero-Link" strategies to ensure the information you process can never be traced back to you.
Treat a public AI prompt like a public social media post. Do not include:
Government IDs: Social Security numbers, driverβs licenses, or passport numbers.
Financial Details: Credit card numbers, bank account details, or specific salary info.
Contact Info: Your home address, personal phone number, or private email.
Medical Records: Specific health conditions linked to your real name.
If you need the AI to analyze a sensitive document or help with a private project, use these techniques to minimize exposure. This allows you to get the benefit of the AI without "linking" the data to your real-world identity.
1. De-Identification (The Placeholder Trick)
Before pasting text, replace specific names with generic roles.
Instead of: "John Doe from 123 Maple St is late on his $5,000 payment."
Use: "[Client A] from [Location X] is late on their [Amount Y] payment."
2. Generalization
Reduce the "resolution" of your data.
Instead of: "Born on July 14, 1985."
Use: "A male in his late 30s."
3. The "Abstract" Prompt
Ask the AI for the logic or template rather than the specific result.
Example: "Write a formal late-payment notice for a service-based business that remains polite but firm," rather than giving it the specific client's details to write the letter for you.
Scrub First
Remove names and numbers before clicking a "Generate" or "Analyze" button.
Use Fakes
Use "John Appleseed" or "Acme Corp" for all your testing and drafting.
Contextual Isolation
Don't tell the AI who you are. You don't need to say "I am a lawyer in Chicago." Just say "Write this in a legal tone."
Before you hit enter on a prompt, ask yourself: "If this prompt appeared on the front page of tomorrow's newspaper, would I be okay with that?" If the answer is no, scrub the PII and try again.
